Theorectically informed research begins with serious consideration of published literature regarding the topic at hand. I am part of a team of researchers doing an ethnography of YouTube culture for a class at Kansas State University taught by Dr. Michael Wesch (mwesch). We are creating a video documentary of YouTube that will be posted to YouTube at the conclusion of our research. We will also be writing papers and giving conference presentations on this research. To see our work in progress, visit our blog at http://mediatedcultures.net/ks... If you have any questions or concerns you may contact Dr. Michael Wesch at mike.wesch@gmail.com or Dr. Rick Scheidt, Chair, Committee on Research Involving Human Subjects, 203 Fairchild Hall, Kansas State University, Manhattan, KS 66506, (785) 532-3224.

i dont think you can ever finish a lit review. that frustration is relieved by the beer.

good point and i agree. i will likely not find much specifically relevant to the internet AND reality, but if i research them separately, i can begin to get ideas. i havent found much on the two linked specifically but perhaps its better to do a research paper on what there isnt much on...but your point is very valid. hopefully with the internet publishing turnover time will become faster, as it IS hard to do lit reviews involving technology. Thanks for the comment.

Now, I have never eaten Ramen noodles AND had a beer while writing a lit review ... without the beer saved as a reward for finishing, how would I ever finish?

given that publication cycles are 18-36 months and that research typically takes a year from inception to submission for publication, do you really think that anything you read in a journal describing the world of 2002-2003 is going to be terribly relevant? Welcome to the Academy.

well i was thinking the other day on reality (really i was) and i came to a quandry, what is reality? does it tie into truth and perception, in which case as long as you percive things to be "real" then they are at least to you, and honestly thats all that matters. so to you its "real" about the ramen and beer, i however dont eat raman and drink beer so to me it isnt real because its not a tangible thing, i dunno its hard to define what reality is...
