because if they did you might be watching a video form the 60's about Marlin fishing.
Flowchart1345 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
and there is nothing wrong with 'slaughtering' animals for good...God gave us dominion over the animals on earth.... it isn't a sin to kill an animal...and even from a non religious point of view... I've said it before... if our ancestors never hunted..killed and ate animals we wouldn't be here today, I seriously don't see why you people give a crap about how 'harsh' it is and stuff like that... you might as well just don't voice your opinion because it's never going to stop
Flowchart1345 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
it depends on the species you are talking about really...because dolphin or mahi mahi reproduce at a young age and it is pretty much impossible to fish them out....wahoos are plentiful aswell and so are marlin....sharks and bluefin tuna have shown to have been fished out and snapper aswell only because of their long life spans and high age of sexual maturity...but there certanly is no shortage of fish in the sea...

Thanks jojo, and I totally agree. If commercial fishing didn't exist and there was no threat to the sustainability of oceanic ecosystems I wouldn't mind fishing as much, as long as fishermen respected the fish that was losing its life for their sustenance. We have a mindset in our civilization in assuming human life is more important than all other life, which I detest.
The Striped Marlin is also my totem fish, so I have a personal connection to them, not that I expect others to understand...

Big difference between fishing for food for friends and family and commercial fishing. Personally done both. If anything food/sport fisherman should start seeing that the commercial industry is foe. I have seen the depletion of certain fish in less than a decade due to commercial overfishing. If more folks fished and didn't buy from corporate vendors there wouldn't be overfishing ,bycatch ,dragger issues.

I also feel compelled to state, again, that I do not blame independent fishermen for overfishing - it is commercial fishing which has put us in this situation. But I still believe in our current society that eating any meat is unsustainable and morally unjustified. We can feed far more people with far fewer resources if we don't use animals for food.
Ask any old fisherman about what the seas used to be like - I bet most will say there used to be far more fish.

Nice language on a public forum...
I fully agree with you that fishing is no worse than slaughtering cows, etc. - I disagree with all slaughter of animals.
As usual, you are not listening to what I say and are, instead, getting defensive. There IS a shortage of fish:
90% of fisheries are in decline and the AP reports that 2/3rds of "most valuable fish species" are threatened.
If the greatest joy in your life is torturing and killing an animal for food then I feel sorry for you.
Flowchart1345 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
Why sould we stop fishing and catching our food. There is NO shortage of fish in the sea, and if there is a rare species strict laws are put in place to protect them. Stop Harrassing us fishermen because we aren't doing a damn thing wrong. Fishing is a beautiful sport and a very good way of living, there is no greater joy than landing that monster wahoo or dolphin and having steaks of him on your plate that night. So stop tryna pissin off fishermen who dont do a fuckin thing wrong |
