Very impressive. All that power from only 2.6L of displacement. Rotaries overall make more power than regular piston engines for the same displacement but are a lot less reliable.

As with most dyno tests, one is looking for maximum HP, maybe just long enough for a 1/4mile drag. The heat in the headers was not sustainable. With turbos, the turbine is spun by gasses expanding just as they hit the blades. To get the most boost you really want all the heat (energy) to be there at the turbo inlet, thus the red hot header. I thought the flames was simply the paint burning off. Rotaries make HP is because they spin at higher RPM's before comming apart. Torque X RPM's equal HP.

If you pay attention before you actually see flames...you will notice that that is actually the exhaust manifold/header tubes starting to GLOW cherry red because they are getting sooo hot under boost. When you actually see flames..there might have been some kind of rupture in the exhaust gaskets or something maybe...and then at the very end when a few lil flames shoot out...its just the ignition of excess gas fumes being shot out the exhaust.

engine is 2.6 liter but if you want compare to 4 stroke engine its 5.2 liter, so this power isnt much fancy. But this is on relatively low boost. Its shame that car with this engine cannot make decent pass |
